Gloves

The use of safety gloves make the hands comfortable while shielding them from heat, cold, friction damage, chemicals, abrasions as well as diseases.

Safety gloves come in various types. The type of glove worn will determine if they will protect the hand from hazards such as contaminated blood, cuts, burns and also frostbites.

There are various kinds of workwear gloves which can be worn when dealing with chemicals. They are more likely to be made from neoprene, rubber and vinyl. The padding of the neoprene is most ideal for use with cold chemicals. Majority of the safety gloves have a tight fastening at the wrist designed to prevent harmful chemicals from going into the gloves. For handling fragile containers such as flasks or test tubes, the gloves should have a grip that is non-slip.

Several safety gloves prevent your hands from getting cuts. They workwear gloves are mostly made from Kevlar knit, metal or mesh and are generally worn by persons who handle glass, sheet metal and cut fabrics. Most of the safety gloves are resistant to puncture making them ideal for persons working in the field of animal handling.

The two types of safety gloves that are used for guarding against severe heat are the Kevlar and leather gloves. While the leather gloves are ideal for use in handling objects that are hot, they are not resistant to flames. Many of the Kevlar gloves are flame-resistant, which make them suitable for persons who do welding.

Persons working outdoors, in freezers or cold storage units, ice or snow are required to have safety gloves to shield them from frostbite. They are generally made from leather and are lined with the material fleece. The usually are available with Velcro closing or may be fastened at the wrist area to avoid cold air or snow from getting inside the gloves. It is recommended that persons who have to deal with sharp objects as well as in a cold environment use the insulated gloves which are covered with PVC to provide additional protection.

Safety gloves that are resistant to temperature are made from insulating materials such as leather. This works to keep the skin safe from severe temperatures. In -300° Fahrenheit, some gloves are still effective while some can protect the hand up to 600o Fahrenheit. These kinds are mostly used when there is open flame present and also for welding.

Another important aspect of the workwear gloves is the colour. The fabrics that are dark in colour help to make stains invisible. The reflective nylon feature and high visibility colour of some safety gloves is able to avoid accidents that normally occur in conditions with low light. It is best to choose gloves with materials that can be washed in order to keep them clean and hygiene-proof as well as to preserve a look of professionalism.
